Thankfully, hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers can be reversed by dissolving with an injectable called hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. At Enchanted Medical Aesthetics, we offer this service with the use of Hylenex. Our first step to helping you with your undesired filler is a consultation with one of our medical providers.
During this consultation, our aesthetic specialists will assess your face, asking questions to clarify what changes you are desiring in your appearance. At Enchanted Medical Aesthetics, we also recommend that you provide the type of dermal filler you have had placed and how long ago. After reviewing your medical records, your provider will create a customized treatment plan for improving your appearance and helping to dissolve the unwanted filler.
A consultation is the first step before any dissolving treatment is scheduled. Our providers will take a close look at the area you want addressed, go over your health history, and confirm whether dissolving is the right option for your situation. Bringing information about the type of filler you have had and when it was placed is helpful going into that appointment.
When filler has not been placed as intended, it can affect the overall balance of the face. The enzyme breaks down the product so the area can be properly assessed and treated again if the patient chooses.

Before any Hylenex is applied, our providers use the Clarius Linear L20 HD3 ultrasound system to map out where the filler is sitting, how much is present, and how deep it has been placed. This imaging step allows for accurate placement of the dissolving agent rather than a generalized approach. Once the assessment is complete, a numbing cream is applied to the area, and the Hylenex is injected directly into the targeted tissue.
After the session, the filler begins to break down and the body gradually processes it. Some swelling is normal during this period and can take up to two weeks to fully settle. Patients who want to have new filler placed after dissolving are generally advised to wait at least two weeks, which gives the dissolving agent enough time to fully clear.

Each session includes a one-on-one consultation, an ultrasound assessment using the Clarius L20 HD3 to evaluate the location, depth, and amount of filler present, and an injection of Hylenex to dissolve the unwanted product.
